She is certain the Nightmare Elf is holding them captive. When she receives a cryptic homemade video in her email—a video that appears to be a message from Natalie—she turns to the one person she never thought she would see again—Taylor, the girl who abandoned the other teens to save herself before the Nightmare Elf could begin his twisted game. RETURN TO THE DARK HOUSE is incredibly entertaining, filled with twists and turns which will keep you guessing until the end
By Teen Reads
It is rare for sequels to go above and beyond the first. However, RETURN TO THE DARK HOUSE kicks it up a notch with new scenery, new scares and a bigger climax than the first.
After Ivy escapes the Dark House, she can’t shake what happened there. The broken promise of returning to rescue Parker and leaving him behind haunts her still. The police have no new leads and Ivy decides to take the case into her own hands. The killer always vowed she would return for the sequel and he was right.
The biggest change between the two books is the lack of perspective changes with each chapter. In WELCOME TO THE DARK HOUSE, it follows a new character’s perspective each chapter --- getting inside the heads of at least six characters. This makes for a difficult read as readers are constantly confused as to which character is which. In RETURN TO THE DARK HOUSE, readers will have no such problem. Yes, there is a bit of perspective change but not to the same degree as the first book.
Laurie Faria Stolarz continues Ivy’s story in this sequel which tops the first. The writing is fantastic; it definitely keeps readers on the edges of their seats. Whereas in WELCOME TO THE DARK HOUSE Stolarz recycled classic horror clichés, the sequel is fresh. Stolarz creates an elaborately layered plot, leaving readers to fall deeper into the story.
Reading the first book in the Dark House trilogy, I didn’t feel as connected to Ivy. Her story was a bit unrelatable. Having a cast of seven main characters (in the first book), it was difficult to focus on one or the other. In the sequel, however, Ivy quickly becomes everyone’s favorite protagonist. In her desire to rescue Parker and the others, readers will easily be drawn to her bravery and loyalty.
RETURN TO THE DARK HOUSE is incredibly entertaining, filled with twists and turns which will keep you guessing until the very end. Laurie Faria Stolarz created an amazing sequel which will definitely keep you up at night. Just remember to keep the lights on.

I recently read Welcome to the Dark House, the first book in this series, and was blown away by it! I've had some pretty bad experiences with YA horror so I didn't have high hopes, but I was pleasantly surprised. So obviously I got the second book as soon as possible and blew through it in less than a day! It did not disappoint.
Return to the Dark House picks up a few months after Ivy Jensen escaped the amusement park, leaving her new friends behind. The first several chapters show Ivy's point of view as she battles with the memories of the Dark House and the guilt of leaving others behind. Everyone thinks she's crazy and the cops are annoyed by her insistence on helping with the case. But no headway has been made and Ivy can't stand idly by. Once again, Ivy is an incredibly strong character. I didn't quite understand her deep feelings for Parker considering the length of their relationship in book one, but I can appreciate that she hadn't had many meaningful relationships since her parents died years earlier.
Cue a new(ish) character: Taylor. Taylor was an interesting addition to an already interesting cast of characters. Unfortunately, I found her more irritating than anything. She was constantly spouting off tidbits about classic horror films in the midst of some insane life or death situation, which seemed pretty unreal. Still, I thought she was a decent character and a good balance for Ivy. Together Taylor and Ivy set out to help the others who might still be alive and find out who the "Nightmare Elf" is in the process.
I.Loved.This.Book. The Dark House series is really unlike any other horror I've read. Throughout the first book I wasn't sure if it was truly paranormal or not, but this one clears that right up. Book two not only furthers this terrifying story, but gives something of a behind the scenes look at the nightmare itself. This one is set in a mansion in the woods, which, while not as creepy as an abandoned amusement park (in my opinion) was still really ominous and I really thought it worked great in the story!
I don't know if there will be a book three since the ending seemed to leave it kind of open. It wrapped up the story enough to be a mostly satisfying ending, but it could definitely do with a third book to round it out. If you're a fan of the horror genre, please give this one a try!

Perfect
By Bridget Allen
I have read several of Laurie's books, including the touch series, blue is for nightmares and now ,both of the darkhouse books. I absolutely loved this book and enjoy its "mysterious" content. But if i had to fix one last thing, it would be that (SPOILER ALERT TO ANYONE WHO HASN'T READ) ivy should have actually atleast KILLED the nightmare elf. I dont know if anyone would agree but i think it was a bit necessary. I don't like to critique anyones work too often and apologize if i sound rude, but thats pretty much all that i would change. I really hope this book has yet another sequel and if so, i would be dying of excitement to read it. Laurie all of your books give me such an interesting feeling ,of being scared, and excited to read on! I cant wait to read more of your upcoming titles, thank you for beingsuch an inspiration towards me, from, your twelve year old fan
