I was so excited to find, this cookbook! My son and his wife just Love these hot dogs so I am sure they will get much enjoyment from this cookbook! The cookbook is used but it is in perfect condition! I would keep it for my own use if my Family weren't grown-up. It is not a large cookbook however it contains some wonderful recipes! It was costly but I'm sure Glad I found it! Recommend

I live in Missouri. Long trip to get to Coney Island from here. However, our local Sam's Club serves these delicious dogs. It is on my bucket list to try some of these recipies.

No one had more to lose in following his political convictions than Paul Robeson. Here I Stand, originally published in 1958, was Robeson's response to the questions about why his mission--to win the freedom of black people everywhere--incited so much hatred and fear in his country.

Following Sterling Stuckey's 1988 introduction and Lloyd L. Brown's 1971 preface, both providing invaluable commentary, Robeson begins with his recollection of a Princeton boyhood. The roots of his world-view that would ultimately be his undoing were set down there. "Throughout his youth, Robeson's father [a pastor in the A.M.E. Zion Church] insisted on 'personal integrity,' which included the idea of 'maximum human fulfillment.'" Indeed, to list Robeson's achievements while attending university is to be in awe of a fabulously endowed man, bent on living out his father's edicts, and achieving his magnificent potential.

As his fascination with the Soviet Union grew, he began to attract the notice of McCarthy's watchdogs. He had begun to draw parallels between the Soviet social "experiment," which brought a whole underclass into the 20th century, and the emerging nations of Africa. In the early '40s, he reached the height of his performing career ("Robeson's Othello was more authentic than that of any other actor of his time"), but soon thereafter, he would set aside his brilliant career and commit fiercely to the struggle for black liberation. In 1949, it would all come crashing down, and for a decade, an ugly, active campaign against Robeson reigned, stemming not from the growing radicalization of his beliefs, but from the turning tide of cold war politics. W.E.B. DuBois, also a victim of the Communist witch-hunts noted, "He is without doubt today, as a person, the best known American on earth, to the largest number of human beings. His voice is known in Europe, Asia and Africa, in the West Indies and South America and in the islands of the seas. Children on the streets of Peking and Moscow, Calcutta and Jakarta greet him and send him their love. Only in his native land is he without honor and rights."

Lloyd L. Brown helped Robeson write Here I Stand, and he crafted the tone, which is at once accessible and impassioned, originally aimed at the black religious community. Paul Leroy Robeson (April 9, 1898 – January 23, 1976) was an American concert singer (bass), recording artist, actor, athlete, scholar who was an advocate for the Civil Rights Movement in the first half of the 20th century. He gained international attention for his work in the arts and he merged his artistic career with political activism to speak out for the equality of minorities and the rights of workers throughout the world. His friendship with the Soviet Union and the Soviet peoples plus criticism of the lack of progress in civil rights in the United States at the outset of the Cold War and during the age of McCarthyism brought scrutiny, conflict and retribution from the American government. His public persona became diminished, his income plummeted and he faced isolation from the Civil Rights Movement in the second half of the 20th century.

Robeson’s life and legacy

Here I Stand is Paul Robeson’s remarkable autobiographical account. Robeson’s candid account of his early years is a must read for students and anyone interested in learning about the formation of Paul Robeson. Robeson’s personal testament describes how to develop one’s own skills, how to become mentally empowered to believe in you, and how to achieve true greatness. As Robeson explained, “Success in life [is ] not to be measured in terms of money and personal advancement, but rather the goal must be the richest and highest development of one’s own potential (Here I Stand, p.18).” I liked how historian Sterling Stuckey’s “Introduction” offered readers a well-balanced overview of Robeson’s life and legacy. Dr. Stuckey informs the reader that Robeson’s life is significant because he was a Black scholar, actor, and activist who remained “loyal to his own convictions.” Robeson stood for what he believed in because he knew that if we do not stand for something we will fall for anything. Stuckey also explained how Robeson’s critics often misinterpreted and misrepresented Robeson’s message. Here I Stand is still essential because this forgotten primary source recounts the main elements—social, political and religious that helped shape the philosophical thought and social activism of Paul Robeson.

A hero and visionary

Robeson was by no means a perfect man; his blind spots at times for the oppression of dissidents and minorities in Soviet Russia under Stalin stands out to me. But his intellectual and personal bravery shine much brighter. An accomplished athlete, actor, singer and activist, Robeson is too often ignored or forgotten when it comes to an accounting of great Americans. He stood up to the Jim Crow power structure and black moderates alike. He never stopped advocating for working people of all races, even after being robbed of his career, fortune and fame by Joe McCarthy and his ilk. In these times, when working people are under savage attack by the forces of unfettered, unrestrained capital, and minorities are having their voting rights stolen by corrupt politicians funded by power-mad billionaires, its important to read the works of men and women like Paul Robeson, and learn from their insights. Read it!

Best Biochem book I have used

This was a required text for my Biochem and related courses in Pharmacy school. This is an excellent text... sufficiently easy to read and concise. Chapters are short (most are 10-12 pages) so subject material is broken down well. Certainly recommend this book.

Very short course

This book was required for a class. It is easy to read and understand, however it truly is a short course. It is about half the size of other biochemistry books I have seen, so if you are looking for an in-depth text, this is not for you. Also, this book skips out on a lot of background information and the end of chapter problems are much more in-depth than the text, requiring outside sources to answer.

Does not help solve biochemistry problems

Each chapter has about 10-15 questions only. The explanations in the back are worthless and you end up wasting so much time flipping through the chapter only to find out that the question being asked can't be solved within the scope of the book, let alone the chapter.

Some questions ask you about data which require a table of pHs. The book introduces to you scrap info and you then end up having to look online for pHs and pKas of several amino acids. The appendix in the back is absolute crap. The author should have focused less on adding pointless words and instead make graphs and organize everything. This book seems rushed and chaotic. The only thing I like about it is that the information is presented in a simple manner so you end up learning the concepts, but when it comes to the problems, you're literally screwed because of the lack of information given.

I can't stress enough how annoying the questions and solutions are in this book. I wish it came with a separate solutions manual. The chapters don't even have a solution box like most other textbooks where they go step by step in solving a problem.

Overall the book is understandable but it is not helpful in solving biochemistry questions... which is what biochemistry exams ask... so all in all I would say this was a waste of money.

If you compare the sixth edition of Introductory Electronic Devices and Circuits with its predecessor, you'll immediately see the changes in style and appearance that are part of this revision. The enhanced illustrations, combined with subtle changes in wording, are intended to make it easier for your students to study and comprehend the material being presented.

Users of previous editions will notice some changes in presentation and content. For example:

The presentation on emitter bias in Chapter 7 (DC Biasing Circuits) has been reduced and moved into a new section (Section 7.4, Other Transistor Biasing Circuits) with the feedback bias circuits.
The approach to transformer-coupled amplifier analysis in Chapter 11 (Power Amplifiers) has been modified to bring it in line with RC-coupled circuit analysis.
The component specification sheets have been updated to reflect changes in component ratings and availability.

Several of the learning aids from previous editions have undergone revision (or relocation) as well. For example:

The summary illustrations, in most cases, have been modified to include the primary component and/or circuit equations.
Critical Thinking questions, which previously appeared in the margins, have been added to the Section Review questions.
The glossary (Appendix E) has been updated and revised extensively.

From the start, my goal has been to produce a text that students can really use in their studies. As a result, many of the learning aids developed in the previous editions of Introductory Electronic Devices and Circuits have been retained:

Performance-based objectives enable students to measure their progress by telling them what they are expected to be able to do as a result of their studies.

Chapter outlines provide a handy overview of the chapter organization.

Objective identifiers in the margins cross-reference the objectives with the chapter material. This helps students to locate the material that will enable them to fulfill any objective.

Margin notes (which are color coded in this edition) include:

Notes that highlight the differences between theory and practice

MULTISIM APPLICATIONS PROBLEMS

In response to reviewer input, applications problems incorporating EWB® software were integrated throughout the previous edition of this text. These files have been upgraded to MultiSim® and incorporated here so that instructors can decide (on an individual basis) whether or not to include them in their courses. The CD-ROM packaged with the text contains MultiSim applications problems developed by George Shaiffer (Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado Springs, CO). Various figures throughout the text are marked with an EWB icon. The file associated with each figure can be accessed from the CD-ROM using the figure number.

Many instructors see MultiSim as a valuable learning tool. Others believe that its classroom use should be limited to solving circuit problems encountered by more advanced students. I believe that the method used to integrate MultiSim into this text will make it valuable to those who wish to use it while keeping it unobtrusive to those who do not.

Each electronics course serves, in part, as a foundation for the next. For example, you were taught about resistors in your fundamentals course. If you take a moment to flip through this book, you'll see that very few circuits do not contain at least one resistor. So, it should make sense that a thorough understanding of resistors is necessary to learn the principles and circuits discussed in this book.

You are studying electronic devices at this point because it is serves as a foundation for the courses that will follow. Just as the knowledge of basic components and circuit principles is essential for understanding electronic devices and circuits, you must successfully learn the material in this book to be prepared for later courses.

What are electronic devices? They are components with dynamic resistance characteristics. That is, they are components with resistance characteristics that are current-controlled or voltage-controlled (depending on the component). These fairly complex components are used in virtually every type of electronic system. They are used extensively in communications systems (such as televisions, stereos, and cellular phones), digital systems (such as PCs and calculators), industrial systems (such as process control systems), and avionics (aviation electronics).

As you can see, the study of electronic devices is essential if your knowledge is to advance beyond where it is now.

"What Can I Do to Get the Most Out of This Course?"

There are several steps that you can take to help you successfully complete your study of electronics. The first is to realize that learning electronics requires that you take an active role in your education. It's like learning to ride a bicycle—you have to hop on and take a few spills. You can't learn how to ride a bike just by "reading the book," and the same can be said about learning electronics. You must be actively involved in the learning process.

How do you get actively involved in the learning process? Here are some guidelines worth following:

Attend class on a regular basis. The book provides information. Insight (which is just as important) is gained through classroom and lab experience.

Take part in classroom problem-solving sessions. Get out your calculator, and solve the problems along with your classmates.

Do all the assigned homework. Circuit analysis is a skill. As with any skill, you gain competency only through practice.

Take part in classroom discussions. Classroom discussions can clarify points that otherwise may be confusing, and they can help you to better understand how the various principles tie together to form a complete picture.

Actively study the material in your textbook.

Actively studying the material in the textbook means that you must do more than simply read it. When you are reading material for the first time, there are several things you should do:

Learn the terminology. You are taught new terms so that you will know what they mean and how to use them. When you come across a new term in the text, commit the new term to memory. How do you know when a new term is being introduced? Throughout this text, new terms are identified in the margins. When you see a new term and its definition in the margin, stop and learn the term before going on to the next section.

I agree with the others that the online version of this book is crap, however the book itself explains pharmacology in a manner which is easy to understand and also without loads of unneeded details. I highly recommend the book for APN prescribers!

Where's the editor??

The overall content is thorough and includes valuable explanations and tables. However, this book needs a better editor!!! It is miserable reading through all of the typos in the writing and errors in tables. I stopped to write this review in the middle of reading because back to back sentences spelled a drug name totally different. My book is filled with written in corrections. I've found myself having to utilize other sources to verify that the typo'd sentences contain correct information. Each chapter has different authors, and some have proven to be better writers than others. Good information in this book, but be prepared to stumble over many typos.

Causes of Braniff's Failure

For anyone wanting to know the causes of Braniff becoming the first "legacy" airline to be allowed to fail in the brave new world of deregulation, "Splash of Colors..." is the book to read. Written from an objective point of view by a former Braniff pilot, there were multiple causes that converged on Braniff to bring about its demise, many within their control, some beyond their control. Nonetheless, by decisions made under Harding Lawrence, Braniff made itself highly vulnerable to any adversity that was sure to come sooner or later...which came with a vengeance sooner than later. If there was a primary cause one could point to for the death of Braniff, it was the high costs of over-expansion (especially internationally) that continued to be a drain on Braniff's finances for years after routes were dropped for lack of patronage. There were a host of other ill-advised decisions as well, all of which the author covers in a detailed yet readable manner.

Also covered briefly is the ill-fated re-start of much smaller Braniff "Mk 2" ~2 years after "Mk 1" ceased operations.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Braniff Airlines Death

Having a vested interest in this story-my uncle was a Captain for Braniff International Airways for over thirty years-I wanted to know the whole story. I was impressed with the details of research and interviewing that must have gone into the manuscript that finally became the published work. I was looking for more details about the impressive advertising campaign that was created during the 1964-65 era, but he addressed this chapter in history with a very brief description. If anyone has read Mary Well's book "A Big Life"-you'll find that she wasn't the "brainchild" behind the "End of the Plain Plane", but her art director and copy writer who'd thrown the concept into the trash and she discovered it in an effort to get some new ideas into their approach. All in all, this was a very good read, and I wish that it could have been a little more informative about the public's overall perception of the company as it slid towards the cliff and eventually pushed over it.

The best way to describe this book is that I read it in one night. I couldn't put it down. Have you ever worked for a company that you wondered how did it stay afloat when you see the attitudes of the front line people all the way up to management. This book shows how one company, Braniff Airlines, imploded and destroyed itself from within. Great reading and a great book to give your supervisor.

Peace and Joy

Curtiss Ann Matlock has delivered a beautiful and warm Christmas story just in time for our own Christmas Holidays. Her way with words draws you right into the story and makes the reader feel as if they are right there and a part of the work, the heartache and the love on the Texas ranch. Olivia is a woman with a believable spark. I did not want to see this story end. I hope that in time the author will write a sequel to this beautiful romance.

Curtiss Ann Matlock moves away from her beloved city of Valentine and back in time to the years just following the American Civil War. Her heroine, Olivia, is, like all of her other female leads: a strong, stubborn woman who has suffered loss and pain but refuses to give up her will to survive. She brings her two young sons, Will and Henry, with her on an arduous journey from North Carolina to Texas, where she plans to marry John Carter, a man she's only seen a few times. Olivia has big hopes for their future in this stark, dry land - hopes that are dashed suddenly when she learns of John's untimely death from his friend and partner, Monroe Lockett. With barely enough money to make the return trip to North Carolina and the rigid home she left there, Olivia persuades Mr. Lockett to allow her and the boys to stay with him until the next stagecoach arrives. Far away from civilization, tucked into the small cabin built by her late fiance and furnished by the silent man who has grudgingly given her a temporary home, Olivia finds herself faced with loneliness, despair and, surprisingly, a growing longing for her host when she realizes that his stoic calm and brooding eyes hide an upright, passionate soul that calls out to the woman in her like no man ever has. An Amazon Best Book of July 2016: If you think you know the back-story of the founding of Facebook because you saw The Social Network, think again: Antonio Garcia Martinez’s Chaos Monkeys tells a more complete and sometimes darker story about the founding and development of Mark Zuckerberg’s multi-billion-dollar invention. This is not a whodunit (we know who did – Zuckerberg, those rowing twins, and assorted Harvard frenemies) so much as a procedural, a chronicle by the data-guru who was eventually forced out of Facebook (he went to Twitter) – but not before gathering some pretty interesting social data of his own: about Zuckerberg, about other Silicon valley “chaos monkeys,” and about the culture that spawned all of them. Others who have toiled in tech will recognize some universal truths: for example, that despite the great wealth, most are not in it for the money so much as the mission; Facebook, Garcia Martinez asserts, was a “church of a new religion,” its practitioners true believers. Amazingly accurate coverage of Facebook's internal culture, the good, the bad, and the ugly. (Plus much, much more!)

I worked at Facebook from 2010 until 2015, and until now I have never seen the inner machinations as accurately portrayed as they are in 'Chaos Monkeys'. Facebook very carefully maintains a public relations campaign (almost more internally focused than external) to convince the world it is the best place to work… ever. In reality it is just like any other large company, with plenty of political intrigue, infighting, silo-building, and collateral damage. Sure, the mini-kitchens have organic bananas, and pistachios that stressed slobby software engineers neither have to shell, nor leave a pile of shells littered all around the floor... but in reality they are shackled to an oar, pulling to the endless beat of a drum. Code. Code. Code. It is all here… the creepy propaganda, the failed high-profile projects, the surreal manager/staff relationships, the cultivated cult-like atmosphere, the sharp divide between the have-it-all, and the "hope to have enough to escape" staff. The bizarro world of inside FB, around the IPO. I was there and experienced many of the same corporate events and milestones myself. Antonio Garcia Martinez captures it all perfectly.

That's only the last half of the book.

The rest is a tale of escaping from startup hell, making a go at reaching startup heaven, then making deals to salvage it all when reaching the critical trial-by-fire that every startup must face: die, execute flawlessly, or exit.

There are some who will find the tone, the voice, or the political incorrectness of both to be too harsh to digest. I've already seen that in a few of the reviews here. To them I say "grow up"... put on your big boy/girl pants and read this for the story. The tale it tells. The facts it presents. The data with which it backs it all up. Because it is all true. The exposition of complex systems are described using appropriate, and facile metaphors. Many of the standard Facebook tropes ("stealing/selling your data", "Zuck is evil", etc.) are explained for the misleading baloney that they are. Best of all it describes how the advertising media really operates, going back to the dawn of it, and how Facebook, Google, et al are merely extensions of a system that has existed for two centuries. It is worth the purchase price for that lesson alone, all wrapped in a great, and true story.

For myself, having lived through much of the same experience at Facebook (from onboarding, the devotion, the cynicism, to the inglorious, frustrated exit bungled by one of the legion of Facebook's incompetent and narcissistic manager corps) I found myself going from laughter, to nodding agreement, to gut-wrenching bouts of PTSD as I turned the pages of 'Chaos Monkeys'. Now I no longer have to justify myself to people who ask me why I left Facebook - I can just tell them to read this book, since it explains it better than I ever could.

Pray for the soul of Antonio Garcia Martinez

This is about as unfiltered as well as lucid an account of life as a Silicon Valley entrepreneur can be. It comes off very authentically. The writing is excellent with even his wide ranging quotes well chosen and inserted without the usual smug pretentiousness. Despite several bits of self justification he doesn't place himself above others. This is Liar's Poker for Silicon Valley, not the usual techno elitist promotional drivel. Along the way it is also a fairly educational look at the consumer internet industry, particularly the advertising side as practiced at Google, Facebook and Twitter.

Still given the vast influence Silicon Valley companies have on global culture this is a sad commentary on a local culture that is influencing us all. The original startup in the story, AdGrok, should have by all rights been a chapter 7 bankruptcy. That it was an acquihire with multi-million dollar payouts for the three founders shows just how overheated the tech market is. That the author would whine about it reflects how out of whack expectations are in the overheated market. Mostly though it just made me very sad that he left British Trader Woman with two young kids and no father, then did it again with another woman and another child. Long after nobody cares about any of the companies or big personalities he writes about those kids will sorely miss growing up without a father. The costs of serving the idol of money and power are high indeed.

If you are remotely interested in startups and tech you should read this book. This is Liar's Poker crossed with Silicon Valley, with a smattering of Hunter S. Thompson-esque ruminations about life, capitalism, and everything.

You will either love or hate Martinez's voice (I found myself doing both at different parts of the book). I'm sure a lot of people are going to get hung up on some offhand sexist comments or the dirt thrown at Facebook's execs (and I'm sure that Martinez could have avoided both while keeping the book interesting). The real gems in the book, however, are the tangents that Martinez takes to describe in a really simple way some fairly technical concepts. For example the way that he describes online advertising and why it is similar to security trading is really well done.

Read this book if you want to see how the Valley works from someone who was in there, drank the koolaid, but have the clarity of mind to get out of there and write about it.
