Wonderful guide to universal truth

In this book, Dr. Bynum continues to make significant contributions to our understanding of "higher dimensions of reality". This long awaited and most recent work is a beautiful integration of the sciences including physiology, neuroanatomy, psychology and physics. By discussing the role that neuromelanin plays in the brain and the association of neuromelanin with key neural and endocrine system plexuses/pathways, Dr. Bynum has so elegantly outlined and given empirical evidence for the practice of the "Ureaus" and drawn a clear connection between it and ancient teachings. The major topics are explained in such a way that readers from a non-science background can benefit from these tested methods. The meditative process that is discussed can be practiced by anyone with dedication and discipline. He presents very compelling ideas, both medically and scientifically, that substantiate a method to reach a level of "higher consciousness" or contact with a "spiritual self".

Intelligent, informative and Useful

Dark Light Counsciousness is a very engaging read. It starts out explaining a lot about the brain and the chemicals that apparently connect our consciousness to the body and to our soul. As we become more aware, the melanin and neuromelanin in our bodies increase in quantity and quality to open the gates of consciousness even more. As the book continues, Dr. Bynum then moves into a very interesting and thorough discussion of the many ways mankind, throughout the ages, has developed to raise the amazing Kundalini power in the body to bring about the full awareness that we are, indeed, beings of light. I particulary liked his inclusion of breathing techniques and energy work, (i.e. qi gong, Reiki, and others.) He provides some of the breathing techniques, and energy work of these traditions and helps anyone who practices any of these disciplines to gain a greater understanding of the need to integrate and expand their practice to include breathing, meditation, intent, and imagination with their usual energy work. I found this book to be most enlightening and useful - even if I am not at a point of wanting to practice a full program of Kundalini work, there is more than enough useful information and practices to motivate any seeker, practitioner, to incorporate some of them. Anyone on a definite path to raising their consciousness, and vibration, will find this book very useful.

another masterpiece by Dr. Bruce Bynum!

“Dark Light Consciousness” has made me more aware of how perfectly man is designed to reunite with divine consciousness. Dr. Bynum, explores the science of kundalini, that innate divine evolutionary life force that emerges from the base of the spine and surges in spirals upward to cleanse the thought of impurities and to mold thought as well to return again to the Source within itself.
He wants Western psychology to open to the wisdom of higher mind that was known to ancient Egypt, India and Tibet. As he states (p. 4), “Just as psychologists have studied the subconscious and the unconscious below the ego by means of slips of the tongue, free association, and dreams, we must now study the higher unfoldment of the superconscious that functions above and beyond the ego.”
He then lays out how kundalini is connected to the dark neuromelanin in the brain, nervous system, and organs, and makes an excellent case that this light-absorbing, iron-rich melanin is not only involved in the development of the brain, etc., but also able to detect the subtle movement arising from within the Earth’s core (also iron-rich). That neuromelanin is in all likelihood the physical biochemical substance of the subtle energy body or etheric body the mystics have spoken of for thousands of years.
The goal of life, according to Dr. Bynum, is union with the divine, and hence the goal of spiritual practice is the raising and awakening of the energies of kundalini and the activation of a personal connection to the superconscious. More than half the book is devoted to the practical application of meditation, yoga, and breath exercises that quiet the mind and raise the kundalini.
I particularly enjoyed his writing in Chapter 8 on meditation; he writes more like a poet than a scientist. Here is one of the lines I loved: “Eventually, over hours and years of regular practice watered by faith and an occasional oasis of clarity and bliss, attention begins to fall in love with its own steadiness.”
The book is deep, to say the least. Dr. Bynum loves the darkness, including our collective mystical African origin, as well as the dark unseen aspect we call God-consciousness. He wants us to love it too.
He asks (p. 13), “Why, risking the controversy it will raise in our age, this emphasis on the indigenous African roots of this system? Because we still tacitly fear the dark, dark skin, and all it has come to represent. We are still debating the “racial identity” of the ancient Egyptians despite all the anthropological evidence we have, and even their own physical descriptions of who they were. For this reason, unfortunately, we remain blind to the wisdom and subtle science and reach of consciousness sleeping behind our fear. Even the most progressive in our times finds it difficult to escape the historical brainwashing, the relentless and not-so-subtle fear off the “dark other.” Yet the paradox is that this dark other is none other than our own collective origin and lives within all of us and forms the template of our luminosity both neurologically and spiritually. This is why we must consciously overcome our collective Westernized conditioning and fear and come to embrace the living darkness that enfolds the light.”
Read this book with his other masterpiece, “The African Unconscious.” They are both life-altering!
